The Principal Secretary for State Department of East African Affairs, Ministry of East African Affairs, Commerce and Tourism, Mr. John O. Konchellah will officiate at the above mentioned workshop at the Gilean Hotel, Machakos on Tuesday August 18th, 2015 starting at 10.a.m.

The workshop is as a result of the Treaty of the East African Community (EAC) which puts emphasis on citizen participation in the integration process. The preamble recognizes that lack of participation was a key contributor to the dissolution of the original East African Community (1967-1977). The lack of participation by citizens of East Africa in the integration process made it a purely process driven by leaders. The creation of opportunities for participation is therefore a key feature of the Treaty.

Article 7 under Chapter 2 describes the community as a people-centered and market driven cooperation. It also emphasizes multi-level participation and the involvement of a wide-range of stakeholders in the integration process.

This is therefore, to request you to send your crew to cover the event and participate in the deliberations of the two-day workshop so as to understand the issues that private sector and other interest groups will raise.
